Welcome to the Second Step II. This facility serves school-age children, offering full and part-time programs for before and after school, as well as a summer session.

Before and after school care is available for children from kindergarten to 6th grade. Parents can utilize the Second Step in a variety of ways. For before school care, after school care or both. Parents can also use the Second Step during school holidays or vacations for full-time care.

Children may be dropped off at 6:30 am and will be transported to school in our van. Breakfast is only provided if your child is at the center for the entire day, so please bring food for your child or have breakfast at home. The van returns to pick up the children at close of the school day, for snack, rest and play. The Second Step van serves the following schools in Johnston County:

Parents should pick up their children by 6:30 pm at the latest. We do charge a late pickup fee of of one dollar ($1) per minute for the first five minutes and five dollars ($5) per minute after the first five minutes. This fee is due upon your arrival after 6:30 PM.

Summer Program

It's summer at the Second Step, our facility for school age children, located next door to LSS II. That means all kinds of fun, with trips to the IMAX/Exploris, the zoo, several museums, Downtown Raleigh, even bowling - all kinds of activities to engage the mind and busy the body.

This summer, we will host a special Hawaiian Luau, water balloon tosses, scavenger hutns and other fun events at the center. We bring in several special guest speakers so kids can expect a few fun suprises too. A complete schedule will be provided before the close of the school year.

Our Summer Reading Program rewards children for finishing a number of books. They are given stickers for each book they read and can turn 10 stickers in for a prize. We strongly advocate reading with your children and encouraging their interest in books.

Children enrolled at the Second Step are required to attend all events. If you do not wish your child to participate in a particular event, you will be expected to make alternate arrangements for child care on that day.

Spaces for the summer program are limited. Please complete the application form and return it to the management of your center by March 28th at the latest. Spaces are filled on a first come, first serve basis.

Tuition for the program is $125.00 per week, due each Monday before 5:00 pm. You can pay by check, credit or debit card at either center. There is also a one-time, non-refundable activities fee of $125.00. This fee covers the cost of field trips and activities and your child's Second Step t-shirt. If desired, the activities fee can be paid in two installments, the first $65 due by April 30 and the second $60 on or before May 15th.
